Just Who Are These People?
By Janet O'Connell
Barry Conner is a politically active wealthy developer from Georgia. He supports The Alliance for the Separation of School and State the Alliance. Theres the CATO Institute. Eagle Forum. And, of course, Concerned Women for America.
Wait a Minute! What and who do these organizations and people represent?
What do they all have in common?
Michele Bachmann.
Research shows that Barry Conner and Eagle Forum each donated substantial sums to her campaign. Check the Federal Elections Commission website to substantiate the facts. Concerned Women for America recently announced their endorsement of Senator Bachman in the CD 6 race. The senator herself is a proponent of the ownership society espoused by the CATO Institute in her website.
The Alliance advocates schools are brought out from under the government. Set them free as it were. Visiting the website one finds information that is not only conservative and extreme but radical in every sense of the word.
The organization espouses that public or government schooling is in direct opposition to liberty. They state public schools foster unquestioning obedience, acceptance of authority, herd mentality, and dependency and schools discourage individuality, innovation, curiosity, creativity and overall excellence. Not only that, they maintain that public schools undermine families, religious beliefs, values and morality because they promote social, psychological, emotional and intellectual dysfunction as well as, immaturity and perpetual adolescence. Whew! In other words, get rid of public schools, theyre horrible harbingers of immorality! The CATO institute espouses the ownership society. High value is on the individual and their responsibility, liberty, and property. People must be freed from dependence on government handouts and make them owners who control their own lives and destinies. In the ownership society, patients control their own health care, parents control their children's education, and workers control their retirement savings. In short, youre in charge of yourself. Period.
Eagle Forum? This organization supports American sovereignty including doing away with treaties, United Nations conferences, US energy restrictions, registering privately owned guns, imposing global taxes, or promoting feminist goals. They support large-scale reductions in income taxes, congressional action to curb the Imperial Judiciary, they wish to expose radical feminists (me?) and they honor marriage and fulltime homemakers. Eagle Forum supports traditional education and opposes liberal propaganda in curriculum and political correctness- whatever that is. But more importantly, they support a parents' right to educate their own children, to protect their children against immoral instruction and materials, and to home-school without oppressive government regulation.
Concerned Women for America (CWA) is a group that opposes gay rights, sex education, drug and alcohol education and feminism, while advocating pro-life and pro-family values. This organization sponsors candidates that are pro-family and that believe the end should be a natural death. They support family legislation, including a constitutional definition of marriage as between one man and one woman. There are dozens of articles denouncing public schools and their immoral influences on our children in their website. In addition, it states CWA believes that neither the United Nations nor any other international organization should have authority over the United States in any area, including economics, social policy, military, and land ownership.
Who cares? Anyone who supports public education, women or human equality and rights should care. A consistent negative theme emanates from each of these organizations ranging from public schools to feminism to marriage and sex, to the sovereignty of the United States. Main stream America is not in their vocabulary. One must question why these radical organizations would support Michele Bachmann other than that she also represents and parrots their doctrines.
Do these people and Michele want to tell us all what to do and how to act inclusive of what we do in or out of our bedrooms? Appears so. Are we all to be automatons walking around like zombies or better yet, Stepford Wives in a trance, no critical thought processes? Guess so. Think it cant happen to you? Could.
Folks, if you lean toward further reduction of government, shes your girl. Got enough money ad infinitum to pay for your healthcare and have no concerns with the exponential cost increases? Dont like feminists or gays? Hate public schools and their funding? Elect this woman to the US House of Representatives.
Micheles proud of her platforms. We all know that she doesnt speak highly of homosexuals and shes an ardent pro-life advocate.
Lets get past these 2 issues, shall we? Lets review whats happening in our country today and determine if we should continue to set these issues as priority one and two not only for MN but our country. Lets ask the Senator what we should do in regard to the War against Iraq? Shes against No Child Left Behind, so am I but for very different reasons. Whats she going to do to encourage healthy growth of our economy? Is there a solution to the energy and gas price crisis? National policy and international relations are at the lowest ebb in years. Is there reason to concern ourselves over the Bush movement against Iran? Civil liberties? Domestic spying?
Today, were addressing serious and significant national issues not just emotions. Is this a person that we want to guide national policy? Is Michele qualified to act in the nations interest and put aside pet emotional issues to ensure that we remain a viable country with a vibrant economy complete with jobs, homes, healthcare and quality education? Lets make smart choices this November, review all of the issues, platforms and make an educated decision, get to the facts, know the candidates. Rise above the emotions. Act in favor of our country, it is after all America the Beautiful, si?
